In the recently published Government bill regarding increased control within health and medical care (no. 2021/22:260), the Government presents a legislative proposal affecting the conditions when regions enters into agreements with private care providers. The Government identifies a risk that patients within the publicly funded health and medical care are deprioritised when the private care provider, which carries out health and medical care on behalf of a region, also takes on assignments from private insurance companies and thereby offers care to patients with privately funded health insurances.
The Government stresses the importance of the region placing higher requirements on the private care provider with which it enters into agreement. Accordingly, the legislative proposal entails, inter alia, that if a private care provider has other clients in addition to a region, it must be regulated in the agreement between the region and the private care provider how it will be ensured that the care provider’s other assignments do not affect the performance of the tasks that have been assigned by the region and further, how this will be followed up.
More information regarding the legislative proposal can be found on the government’s website (https://www.regeringen.se/rattsliga-dokument/proposition/2022/06/prop.--202122260/).
