Hammarskiöld advises Hypoteket in connection with the sale of its cutting-edge mortgage technology platform to Borgo. Hypoteket is a fintech company on the Swedish mortgage market offering mortgages with competitive interest rates that never need to be negotiated. The transaction marks an important step in the ongoing development of the Swedish mortgage market, where digitalisation and new business models are driving change. Since its inception, Hypoteket has granted mortgages amounting to approximately SEK 30 billion and today serves around 10,000 customers with a total of SEK 16 billion in outstanding mortgage loans. Borgo is a Swedish mortgage company offering modern home loan solutions, with a strong focus on digital processes and customer experience. Borgo is owned by a consortium of leading Nordic banks, insurance companies and other investors, including ICA Banken, Ikano Bank, Söderberg & Partners, Ålandsbanken, and Erik Penser Bank.
As part of the transaction, Borgo has also secured an option to acquire Hypoteket’s strong distribution network and brand in the future, as well as the mortgage portfolio currently managed within Hypoteket’s mortgage funds. In connection with the transaction, Hypoteket’s founders, Carl Johan Nordquist and Dag Wardaeus, are acquiring Vend’s (formerly Schibsted), shares in Hypoteket.
